Abbie D. Cross, 83, of Columbia City, died peacefully in the company of family at 5:44 p.m. Sunday, August 27, 2023, at the Waters, Columbia City.

Born on April 10, 1940, in Wolf River, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Bessie (Cook) Pressley. Growing up in Byrdstown, she graduated from Byrdstown High School.

She married Jimmy R. Cross. For 57 years, they made their home near Hartford City.  Jimmy preceded her in death.

In addition to raising three children, she worked several factory jobs throughout the years in Hartford City.

She and her husband enjoyed fishing, especially on Dale Hallow Lake near their Tennessee home.  They also took several wilderness fishing trips in Canada. She would occasionally play the slot machines at the area casinos. When the grandchildren came along, they became Abbie's pride and focus, spending as much time as possible with them.

Surviving is her daughter, Rhonda J. (Kent Ross) Cross of Churubusco, and a son, Jimmy R. Cross, Jr. of Hartford City; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Seiver, son-in-law, William Seiver, and a sister, Shirley Rich.

There will be no services. The burial will take place later in her hometown of Byrdstown, TN.
