Adabelle Lang , 91, of Columbia City, passed away at Miller's at Oak Pointe at 11:25 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.

Born in Whitley County, Indiana, on May 17, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Robert B. and Vera F. (Cummins) Hewes.  She completed elementary school at Washington Center and graduated from Jefferson Center High School in 1951.

On April 5, 1952, she married Howard Lang at the Jefferson Chapel Methodist Church.  They made their home on a farm in Jefferson Twp.  After 54 years of marriage and raising four children, Howard died on September 30, 2006.  In 2012, Adabelle moved to Columbia City.

A full-time homemaker on the farm, she became known for her exceptional baked goods which she enjoyed sharing with others. She was best known for her prize-winning orange cookies and often attempted but never duplicated pinwheel cookies or, as the grandkids called them, "squirrel" cookies.

Using her baking skills, she worked for Burger Dairy Stores, making cookies from 1978 until 1980.  She was a sixty-year and charter member of the Twilight Extension Club.  She also was a Jefferson Chapel United Methodist Church member and the Jefferson Extension Club member.  She belonged to the Ageless Irons and the Columbia City United Methodist Women's Circle.

Surviving are her children, Robert (Kathy) Lang and Judy (David) Kreider, both of Columbia City; James Lang and Susan (Jonathon) Peppler, both of Roanoke; grandchildren, Bobby (Beth) Lang, Christopher (Amy) Lang, Cayala Stuckey, Jessica Kreider, Elijah (Erin) Kreider, Isaiah (Kristin) Kreider, Adam (Carmen) Peppler, Dane Peppler, Nicholas (Maribeth) Peppler; great-grandchildren, Faith, Hope, Alena, Ryker, Cason, Colton, Noah, Leighton, Evan, Karlie, Laine, Dylan, Liam, Carter, Kayden, Ethan, and Alexis; a sister, Sharon Lesh of Ossian and a special friend, Jerry Berger.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Christina Lang, and a great-grandson, Lucas Lang.

The funeral service is at 2 p.m. Tuesday (June 25th) at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.  Burial is at the South Park Annex Cemetery.  Visitation is from 11 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials in Adabelle's honor are to Camp Alexander Mack or the Whitley County Ag Museum.
