Obituary

Alan LeRoy Williamson, Sr ., aged 87, passed away peacefully at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Parkview Whitley Hospital in Columbia City.

Born on August 9, 1937, in Hicksville, Ohio, Alan was a beloved son of the late Frank and Mittie Lee (King) Williamson. He spent his formative years in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County, where he completed his elementary education at Thorncreek School and attended Columbia City High School.

Alan embarked on his work career at Blue Bell in Columbia City, later working for LML Corp, Harris Float Boat, and finally, Reelcraft in Columbia City, where he retired.

On June 6, 1970, he married Edwina M. "Winnie" Booth, and together, they built a life first in Fort Wayne before settling in Columbia City later that year.

Alan was a man of many interests, enjoying fishing, bird watching, crafting useful woodworks, walking canes, and metal pieces. He also had a passion for assembling model airplanes and was an avid fan of old westerns and NFL football.

He is survived by his loving wife, Winnie; his son, Alan L. (Laura) Williamson of Columbia City; daughters, Debra (David) Kemp and Cynthia (Robert) Goleeke of Fort Wayne, and Patricia (Mark) Woods of New Haven; stepdaughter, Christina (Daniel) Hummel of Columbia City; stepsons, Robert (Kathy) Hart, Jr. of Fort Wayne and Barry Hart of Albuquerque, NM; a sister, D. Pauline Landis of South Whitley; 25 grandchildren and over 30 great-grandchildren.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents; sons, David and Kevin Williamson; brothers, James, Frank, and Robert Williamson; and sisters, Bonnie Myers and Mary Jane Sheets.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday (January 31st), at Smith & Sons Funeral Home in Columbia City, with visitation from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorials in Alan's honor are to the St John Lutheran Church, Columbia City.
