Obituary

Alice Jeanette Keller, 100, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at Miller's Merry Manor, Columbia City.

She was born on March 18, 1920, to Clarence and Silvery Miller Sheets in Washington Twp., Whitley County, Indiana. She was the third of three daughters. She graduated from Washington Center High School in 1938.

Alice married Robert "Bob" Keller on January 22, 1943. They were married nearly 60 years before Bob passed away in 2002. They spent most of their married life on their South Whitley farm, moving to Columbia City after Bob retired from farming. Alice lived her entire life in Whitley County.

She enjoyed gardening and cooking for Bob. They enjoyed music, traveling to Washington State to visit her family, and traveling to Florida for a few weeks each winter for several years.

According to Alice, she learned to drive when her father took her and her two sisters out in the field and turned his Model T over to the three girls and told them you can now "learn how to drive." Their father went back to his work and left them on their own to learn!

Alice was proud of her age and would often ask, "How old is the oldest living person?" She would also often say, "I never expected to live this long!" Another common saying Alice had was to respond with I've had "too many birthdays" when asked how she was doing. Alice was very proud of her age, especially after reaching her 90s! She was placed on hospice a year and a half ago only to improve and be discharged from hospice. She also recovered from Covid 19 a few weeks ago!

Alice is survived by her niece, MaryO Fury, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, and her sisters, Helen Sheets Hockersmith and Phyllis Sheets Schrader. She was also preceded in death by her two nephews, Jack Schrader and Allen Keller, and a niece, Ann Akpabio. Ann was her helper in all ways for many years. Alice and Bob did not have children.

A special thank you to Dr. Hatcher and Miller's Merry Manor for providing Alice compassionate care.

No services will be held at her request. She will be interred next to Bob in the South Whitley Cemetery. Arrangement by Smith & Sons Funeral Homes.
