Andreas Lohmar, “Papi”, passed away unexpectedly at age 62 in Columbia City, Indiana on August 28th, 2026, while doing what he loved.

Andreas was born on February 12th, 1964, in Göttingen, Germany, to Theo and Rita (Wedekind) Lohmar. He was raised alongside his older brother and best friend, Stephan. They lived life side-by-side: playing fußball, tinkering with everything, eating their mom’s homemade cakes, drinking beer at Uerige, and even taking annual golf trips into their 60s. They lived together as young adults in Cologne where Andreas began studying physical therapy.

It wasn’t long before his adventurous spirit led him to a year-long job opportunity in the United States, where he met the love of his life, Krista. Just two weeks after returning to Germany, he came back to be with her and they eloped on April 20th, 1994 in Hilton Head. The love that he and Krista shared was perfectly imperfect: unwavering, forgiving, and built to last forever. Together, they raised their three children in Fort Wayne, Indiana in a red brick house bursting with love and joy. Andreas met fatherhood with excellence. Through his steadfast support, he instilled values of integrity, compassion, and the spirit of play in his children. Andreas and Krista created a family unlike any other - one that was widely known and admired by all.

Despite being thousands of miles from his parents and brother, Andreas stayed closely connected to them by calling his mom each day, watching soccer games together, and taking trips to Germany. To this day, all Lohmars understand that nothing will stop them from being with each other.

Andreas created a sense of family everywhere he went and built his career around caring for and healing others. In 2006, he opened his own clinic, Summit Physical Therapy. Each patient was treated like family and he never hesitated to go the extra mile to harness his knowledge to help someone. He was known throughout his community for his athleticism, deep care for others, and entirely non-serious and goofy nature.

Andreas viewed life as a playground with endless possibilities. He loved anything that challenged him: running, cycling, golfing, kayaking, judo, rock climbing, snowboarding, skydiving, and even ballet. He completed half Iron Mans, restored cars, brewed his own craft beer, and built a garden shed from scratch for his beautiful wife. Above all, though, he cared about the people he loved: his family, friends, and any stranger in need of a hand. He was known by all as a determined, hard-working, playful, fearless, loving, and strikingly handsome man who didn't sweat the small stuff and always found a way to laugh through it all.

Andreas now walks alongside his father, Theo, Krista’s parents, Bob and Sylvia, and family dog, Teddy. He will forever be honored by his wife, Krista; children, Susanna, Sam (Alicia), and Sabine (Robby); mother, Rita; brother, Stephan (Sabine); grandchildren he adored, Lila and Oliver; brother and sister-in-law, Anna and Jim; nephews, Rob (Carole) and Jon; great-nieces, Caroline, Charlotte, and Juliette; countless friends; and his beloved dogs, Norman and Molly.

Andreas lived life to its fullest, loved fiercely, and left no stone unturned. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Taken from us far too soon, with so much to look forward to, Andreas lived every day like it was his last and there's no telling what he would have achieved next.

Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 7th at 4:00pm at Canterbury High School, 3210 Smith Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46804.  A private family burial took place at Manti City Cemetery in Manti, Utah. Local arrangements are in the care of Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to ‘One Tree Planted’ in Andreas' memory.
