Asher Alton Adkins, 85, of Columbia City, died peacefully at 12:06 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at The Waters of Columbia City.

Born on May 22, 1937, in Weeksbury, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Guy and Hazel (Hall) Adkins. He grew up in the Hazard, KY area.

On February 28, 1955, he entered the U.S. Navy serving aboard the destroyer USS Allen M. Sumner. He received an honorable discharge from active duty on October 3, 1958, and joined the reserves.

Becoming a professional truck driver, he drove trucks for 40 years.

With good mechanical skills, he enjoyed performing household repairs or working on vehicles.  He liked leathercraft, watching NASCAR or World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). He always adored the attention given to him by the woman in his life, whether from his daughters, acquaintances, or his caretakers.

He is survived by his children, Debra (Tony) Mawhorter of Wolf Lake, Lisa (Thomas Smith) Davis of Columbia City, and Jose Adkins of Mexico; grandchildren, Baxter (Sunnie) Davis, William Mawhorter, Samantha DeWells, Ashley Taylor, Anita Egner, Derek (Justina Shepherd) Smith; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Thompson of West Virginia; and brothers, Roy Adkins of San Diego, CA and Eddie W. (Debbie) Adkins of Wayne, WV.

Additionally, he was preceded in death by a son Michael Adkins; and brothers, Joe, Jim, Don, and Guy Adkins, Jr.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home Columbia City, concluding with military honors by the Korean War Honor Guard at 7 p.m.
