Bernadine L. Walgamuth, 89, of rural South Whitley, died peacefully at her home at 12:45 p.m. Friday, December 17, 2021.

Born March 16, 1932, in Columbia City, Indiana, she was the only child of the late Elmer A. and Hilda M. (Miller) Bauman. Growing up in South Whitley and graduated from South Whitley High School in 1951.

On June 10, 1951, she married Robert A. Walgamuth. They have always made their home in the South Whitley area.

She was a full-time homemaker raising two children. She was a long-time member of the St John Lutheran Church.

In her senior year she enjoyed bird watching, especially the hummingbirds. Bernadine liked to raise flowers, with her favorites being hibiscus and lilies. Fond of musicals, the Sound of Music was among her favorites.

Surviving is her husband of 70 years, Robert; children Pamela (Donald) Sturdevant of Greenville, OH and Jerry R. (David Brodbelt) Walgamuth of South Whitley; grandchildren Steven Sturdevant and Brian Sturdevant; and great-grandchildren Jason Sturdevant and Logan Sturdevant.

The funeral service is 1 p.m. Tuesday at St John Lutheran Church, 2465 W. Keiser Road, Columbia City. Burial is at the South Whitley Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, and one hour before the service at the church.
