Obituary

Carl Joseph "Nick" Nicolosi, 100, of Punta Gorda, Florida, died at 2:22 a.m. November 27, 2022, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, after celebrating his 100th birthday with his family earlier on the 26th.

Born on November 26, 1922, in New York, New York, he was a son of the late Joseph and Lillian (Cannella) Nicolosi. Growing up in New York, he graduated from the Manhattan School of Aviation Trades in 1940.

On July 11, 1941, he became a civilian test aircraft installer and servicer at Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio. On June 27, 1945, he married Josephine Antlitz, making their home in Dayton, OH. In 1948, Wright Field was renamed Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where he continued to work. In 1951, he was sent to Furstenfeldbruck Air Base in Germany as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. He was honorably discharged from active duty on January 10, 1952. He returned to his civilian job at Wright- Patterson Air Force Base retiring in 1976 with 35 years of service.

Moving to Punta Gorda, Florida, he became a realtor. The couple were members of the Isles Yacht Club, where they were actively playing tennis and participating in the variety shows featuring Barbershop singing. Enjoying boating, they would join other club members in overnight boating excursions along the Florida coastline and inland waterways. Josephine passed away in September 2021.

Surviving are his two children, Joseph Michael (Mary) Nicolosi of Fort Wayne and Donna N. (Richard) Sparber of Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Additionally, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Guarneri and Mary Bellia.

A Funeral Mass will be scheduled at a later date at St Patrick's Catholic Church in Arcola. Carl will be laid to rest with his wife at the Sarasota National Cemetery in Florida.  Local arrangements are in the care of Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
