Carol Ann North, 55, formerly of Columbia City, died unexpectedly at 9:35 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Parkview Randallia, where she had been transported from Lutheran Life Villages.

She was born on January 4, 1969, in Columbia City, a daughter of the late Richard and Edwina (Spencer) Hawn.  Growing up in Columbia Twp., she completed Columbia Twp. School and graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1987.

For many years, Carol delivered the Post & Mail and Journal Gazette newspapers to the rural residents of Whitley County.  She worked for the former Fiber Form, Columbia City, and the local McDonald's for over five years.

Carol was known for her smiling face and cheerful laugh.  She enjoyed family gatherings, especially those with steak dinners followed by cherry cheesecake and coffee.  She delighted in a spirited game of Euchre and watching the Kansas City Chief's football.  She had a passion for animals, especially cats.  She leaves behind her beloved black cat, Jazz.  Over the years, she also had a pot-bellied pig as one of her pets.  At home, she liked to watch the Golden Girls sitcom.

Surviving are her siblings, Cynthia (Eric) Witters of Fort Wayne, Mark (Stephenie) Hawn of Columbia City, and Joseph (Lynette) Hawn of Winona Lake; nieces, Jessica Barnes, Meghan Lincoln, and Catherine Cullen; nephews, Matthew Witters, Aaron Witters, Nathan Hawn, Zack Hawn, Nick Hawn, Jacob Hawn; and seven great-nephews and nieces.

The funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday (Dec. 13th) at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.  Burial is at the South Park Annex Cemetery.  Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the service Friday at the funeral home.
