Charles Frank "Chuck" Loe , 65, of Columbia City, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

Born on December 6, 1959, in Ridgecrest, California, he was a son of Larry J. and Patricia L. (Reeg) Loe.  His formative years were spent in Ligonier, IN, Oklahoma, and Arizona.  In 1972, the family settled in rural Columbia City.  Charles graduated from Whitko High School with the class of 1978.

In August of 1978, Chuck entered the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country for six years.  An avid photographer while serving in the Navy, his photographs caught the attention of the local television station, WCSC Channel 5, in Charleston, SC, where he was stationed.  Chuck was hired by the station the day he was honorably discharged from the Navy on February 22, 1983.  He spent the next 20 years at the TV station, moving up from videographer to operating the station's first satellite truck.  He filmed hundreds of sporting events across the U.S., including March Madness College Basketball.  His photos were purchased from CBS, NBC, ESPN and others.

Chuck's greatest joy and love of his life was his daughter Amber.  Nothing brought him more joy than being a full-time dad raising her.  After leaving Channel 5, he returned home to Columbia City, where he spent the remainder of his days.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Amber (Scott) Walker of Reevesville, South Carolina; his devoted mother, Patricia Loe of Columbia City; a brother, LaRoy (JoAnn) Loe of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Angela Vallely of Fort Wayne and Latricia Banuelos of Columbia City; four nieces; one nephew; and six great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry, and an infant sister, Valerie Jo Loe.

There will be no services.  Arrangements are in the care of Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.

Memorials in Chuck's honor are to the Veterans Shepherd's House in Fort Wayne or Honor Flights of NE Indiana.
