Obituary

Cleta "Kay" Sklenar, 65, formerly of South Whitley, died peacefully Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, where she was admitted on Tuesday.

Born October 29, 1955, in Kenton, Ohio, she was a daughter of Cleadis and Gladys (Bailey) Mullins. Growing up in South Whitley, she graduated from Whitko High School in 1975.

On June 20, 1981, she married Edwin T. Sklenar. They made their first home in Columbia City, moving to rural South Whitley in 1986. In 2015, the couple moved to Huntington.

She began her work career at Chamberlain Products in South Whitley later moving to Jimmy's Pizza in Columbia City.  For 13 years, she worked for Gene's Super Valu, South Whitley, until their closure. She then went to work for Walmart in Huntington, retiring in 2018 with 16 years of service.

Through the years, she enjoyed gardening growing her annual flowers as well as a vegetable garden. She is remembered as a good cook and enjoyed her grandchildren when they came.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Ed; two sons, Justin T. (Alissa) Sklenar and Steven (Michelle) Sklenar, both of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Makenzie, Addison, Alexis, and Destany; her mother, Gladys Mullins of Ohio; sisters, Carol (Charles) Beckman of Leipsic, OH and Kathy (Thomas) Wheeler of Pierceton.

She was preceded in death by her father, Cleadis Mullins; brothers, Ralph and Roger Mullins; and sister Cheryl Mullins.

The funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. Burial is at the South Whitley Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
