Connie Sue Smith, 60, of Columbia City, died unexpectedly of natural causes at her home on Sunday, January 8, 2023.

Born on April 5, 1962, in Columbia City, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Tom E. and Betty (Stewart) Erne. She completed her elementary education in Columbia City and attended Whitko High School in South Whitley.

She was a full-time homemaker raising her four children.

Remembered for her caring soul, she was a friend to all. Her care included the animals she encountered throughout her life, especially stray dogs and cats. Fond of angels, she collected glass and ceramic ones as well as other figurines. She preferred to be barefoot wherever possible.

Surviving are her children, Ronald J. Trimpe of Colorado, Shawn Cripe of Kentucky, Christina Carlson of Phoenix, AZ, and Annajane Smith of Fort Wayne; four grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas A. (Carolina) Blair of Columbia City.

She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Jean Erne.

Keeping with Connie's wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements are in the care of Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.

Memorials in her honor are to the Whitley County Humane Society.
