Obituary

Daniel Wallace Dentzer, 76, of rural Columbia City, died peacefully at 11:15 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2021, at Majestic Care of West Allen where he had been a resident since August.

Born September 12, 1945, in Fort Wayne, Indiana he was the only son of the late Dale W. and Margaret (McCreary) Dentzer.  Growing up in Fort Wayne he graduated from South Side High School in 1964.

On October 23, 1965, he married Rita Joyce Garwood.  Then made their home for a short time in Fort Wayne before moving to Whitley County.

For 32 years he worked for NIPSCO, Fort Wayne working a variety of jobs in the service department.

He was a member of the South Whitley Lions Club and a former member of the Washington Twp. Volunteer Fire Department.

Through his life he liked cars, working on them in his spare time.  During the NASCAR season, he enjoyed watching the races, cheering on his favorite driver Tony Stewart.  Known for his hog roast, he liked to host parties at his home.

Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Rita; children Margaret (Robert) Cash and Joshua D. Dentzer both of Columbia City and Dale D. Dentzer; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Additionally, he was preceded in death be a half-brother, Dave Dentzer.

The funeral service is 12 noon Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is at the Nolt Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. until the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials in Daniel's honor are to the Washington Twp. Volunteer Fire Department.
