Obituary

David W. "Fuzz" Wilfong, 71, of rural South Whitley, died unexpectedly on his farm from natural causes at 8:35 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2022.

Born on July 22, 1951, in Wabash, Indiana, he was a son of the late William and Bonnie (Fitch) Wilfong. Growing up in South Whitley, he graduated from South Whitley High School in 1969.

Quickly determining that factory work was not for him, he embarked on a life-long career as a farmer. Farming became his passion, and when he was not working the farm, he was learning, talking, reading, and thinking about farming. Brand loyal to his farm power equipment, he preferred the red ones – International Harvester.

Bowling was his every Wednesday night out. Through the years, he also enjoyed playing golf with his brother-in-law, Jim, and friends at the area courses.

Frugal and conservative, he was slow to warm to a stranger, but once he knew you, he would give you "the shirt off his back" to help.

Surviving are his siblings, Rex (Sandra) Wilfong of Huntington, Donna (Jim) Baxter of South Whitley, and Patricia (Warren) Harlan of Pierceton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Patrick, and a brother, Robert Wilfong.

A memorial gathering of family and friends is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley.

Preferred memorials in Fuzz's honor are to the Whitko FFA.
