Diane Lee Hughes , 67, of rural Columbia City, died peacefully with her husband at her side at 2:54 a.m. Thursday, February 15, 2024, at her home.

Born on November 28, 1956, in Los Angeles, California, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Lena (Frenes) Scott.  Growing up in the Los Angeles suburb of Whittier, she graduated high school there. Continuing her education, she studied to become a phlebotomist.

On February 7, 2014, she married Rory D. Hughes.  They made their home in rural Columbia City.

While living in Los Angeles, Diane owned and operated a house cleaning business.  Artistic, she was talented with many mediums, including pencil drawings, painting both oil and acrylic, clay models, and leatherwork, especially jewelry.

Surviving is her husband, Rory D. Hughes of Columbia City; sons, Jeffrey (Lucy) Jones of Arizona, Michael (Crystal) Jones of Los Angeles, and Timothy (Jill) Jones of Columbia City; 28 grandchildren; and sisters, Sally Woods of Castle Rock, CO and Cynthia Morales of Whittier, CA.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph F. Scott.

Diane desired not to have any services. Arrangements are in the care of Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
