Doris Jean Moffitt, 91, of South Whitley, died peacefully at home at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
Born on December 6, 1933 in Rock Island, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late John E. and Mary (Wille) Bush. She graduated from Reynolds High School in Reynolds, Illinois.
In addition to being a homemaker, Doris worked at Reynolds State Bank in Reynolds, Illinois she then worked at Farmer's Loan and Trust in South Whitley for ten years.
On June 12, 1954 she was united in marriage to Ralph D. Moffitt. In 1956 they moved to Clinton County, Iowa. She then joined Ralph in his move to Kent Feeds in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. In 1974 they moved to South Whitley. Ralph died June 16, 1991.
Doris enjoyed cross stitching, adult coloring and reading. She was an avid Cubs fan. She enjoyed supporting her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was a member of South Whitley Community Church.
Doris is survived by her sons, Samuel D. (Gail) Moffitt of Camden, Indiana, Thomas W. (Laurie) Moffitt of South Whitley; daughter, Janet (Jim) Howard, of South Whitley; son-in-law, Tom (Lu Ann) Warner; eight grandchildren, Ryan (Jacqueline) Rhoades, Stephanie (Josh) Merrill, Stacie (Bill) Claybrook, Trisha (Kevin) Miller, Christopher (Kirstin) Peters, Kelly (Brandon) Mooradian, Justin (Laura) Moffitt and Jaerin Moffitt; brother, John L. Bush of Taylor Ridge, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; a daughter, Lu Ann Warner and a sister, Donna Benson.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 10th at South Whitley Community Church, 6685 SR 14, South Whitley, Indiana. Burial will be at South Whitley Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon until the service on Saturday at the church.
Memorials in Doris's honor are to South Whitley Community Church, Whitko FFA or South Whitley Amvets Post # 2919.
