Doris Mae Wolfe, 96, formerly of rural Larwill, died at 8:20 a.m. Sunday, November 22, 2020, at Lutheran Life Villages Pine Valley, Fort Wayne, where she had been a resident since March.

She was born March 31, 1924, in Washington Township, Noble County, a daughter of the late Perry and Josie (Hively) Bennett. She grew up in Washington Twp., Noble County, where she completed elementary at Washington Center School and graduated from North Webster High School in 1942.

Marrying Harry W. Wolfe, Jr. on April 4, 1942, the couple moved to Etna-Troy Township, Whitley County, where they owned and operated a farm for 56 years. Harry died on July 27, 1998.

Throughout her married life, she was a homemaker and worked on the farm. She was as comfortable operating a tractor as she was cooking her delicious meals for her family. Maintaining a large garden, she grew vegetables as well as flowers.

An accomplished seamstress, she kept the family in clothing and made sure it was in good order. She also enjoyed making comforters.

After the children were raised, the couple enjoyed traveling, visiting all the contiguous states. They also traveled into Canada, including Prince Edward Island and Alaska.

She was a former member of the West Etna Church.

She is survived by a son, Kurt W. (Karen) Wolfe of Columbia City; grandchildren, Dawn (Dane) Anderson, Jeff (Misty) Wolfe, Teri Wolfe, James (Heather) Wolfe, Miles (Jenaca) Wolfe, and Ian (Sarah) Wolfe; and eleven great-grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Linda Wolfe.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by sons, Thomas Wolfe and Lewis Wolfe; a brother, Charles G. "Bus" Bennett; and a granddaughter, Sarah Hord.

A private graveside service will be held at the Thorn Cemetery, Ormas. Arrangements by Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
