With profound sadness and immeasurable love, we remember the life of Gianna Bills, age 15, of Columbia City who passed away on June 8, 2026.

Though her life began with challenges no child should have to endure, Gianna possessed a spirit that continued to seek love, joy and belonging. Adopted and lovingly raised by her Indiana family, she was embraced by caring people who devoted themselves to helping her discover the opportunities, experiences and unconditional love that every child deserves. Together they shared adventures that took her across oceans and introduced her to new cultures, yet some of her happiest moments were the simplest ones – camping with family and friends at the barn and making memories close to home.

Gianna faced developmental challenges that often made life more difficult and sometimes left her vulnerable to misunderstanding and unkindness. Yet beneath those struggles was a tender heart, a kind soul and a young person who longed to fit in and be accepted.

A student at Columbia City High School, Gianna loved attending classes where she had just completed her freshman year with her beloved teacher and advocate, Carrie Veit whose kindness and encouragement meant so much. She treasured the friendships she built and learned that a few true friends can make all the difference in a world that can often feel lonely.

Performing was one of her greatest joys. She loved to dance, sing and when stage fright subsided, act. In 2025 she was proudly crowned Miss Amazing and earned additional titles designed to build confidence and self-esteem while celebrating the gifts of every participant. She loved hot pink platform boots, Ariana Grande, sparkly clothes, teddy bears and Starbucks. She was also an avid animal lover who would have happily filled her home with every dog in the world if given a chance. Her faithful sidekick, Prince, had a special place in her heart and provided comfort.

Gianna's years were far too short but her life stands as a beacon to exercise compassion, inclusion and seeing the worth in every soul. Fittingly she was born on Valentine's Day and will always be remembered as a deeply loved daughter granddaughter, family member and friend whose life mattered beyond measure.

She is survived by her mother, Kaycee Bills; her grandparents, Brian and Vanessa Bills, uncle Gunner (Rebecca) Bills and great-grandmothers, Patricia Horn and Patricia Bills, her two faithful social workers Tracy Pait, Felicia High, and her beloved dog, Prince.

A celebration of life will be Monday. June 15th from 5 pm to 8 pm at 875 W Keiser Rd., Columbia City, IN.  All who loved Gianna are welcome to come.

Memorials in Gianna's honor are to go to the Whitley County Dazzlers at the Whitley County Community Foundation.
