Gladys Mullins, 88, of South Whitley, died peacefully with family at her side at Parkview Whitley at 2:33 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2022.
Born on December 22, 1933, in Jackson, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Jack and Elizabeth (Vanderpool) Bailey.
On October 15, 1951, she married Cleadis Mullins in Salyersville, Kentucky. They made their first home in Salyersville for about a year then moving to McGuffey, OH. In 1958, they moved to Larwill, IN and in 1965 South Whitley. Cleadis died on August 12, 2004.
From 1962 – 1977 Gladys worked at Chamberlain Products in South Whitley.
She enjoyed being with family and friends, working puzzles, playing cards, and sewing, especially quilts. During the summer months she grew a large vegetable garden. She attended the Sidney Baptist Church and above all, she loved being a grandma.
Surviving are her two daughters, Carolyn (Charles) Beckman of Leipsic, Ohio and Kathy (Thomas) Wheeler of Pierceton; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren; sister, Pearlie (Otis) Trust of Lambert, Kentucky and a son-in-law, Ed Sklenar of Huntington.
Additionally, she was preceded in death by two sons; Ralph and Roger Mullins; two daughters, Kay Sklenar and Cheryl Sword and one granddaughter, Jennett Beckman; five brothers, Grover, Robert, Kendel, Hobert and Homer and six sisters, Ailene & Wanda Bailey, Mable Miller, Mataleen Howard, Hesilene Howard, and Viny Slone.
The funeral Service will be 2 p.m. on Thursday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. Burial is at South Whitley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
Memorials in Gladys' honor are to Muscular Dystrophy Association.
