Gottschalk
Sep 22, 1954 — May 27, 2026
Gloria Jean Gottschalk, 71, of South Whitley, died peacefully in the company of family at 1:11 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at her home.
Gloria was born on September 22, 1954, in Huntington, Indiana, to the late Earl William and Peggy Louise (Parker) Iholtz. She grew up in the North Manchester and Sidney area and graduated from Whitko High School in 1973. Continuing her education, she earned a Secretarial certificate from Indiana Digital in Fort Wayne.
On September 14, 1974, she married Leslie "Gene" Eugene Gottschalk, and they made their home in South Whitley, where they've lived for over fifty years, raising two children.
Beginning her work career with Whitley Products, Pierceton, she then spent 15 years with Fiber Form in Columbia City, and finished her career with 15 years at E. F. Rhodes & Sons, Pierceton.
In her free time, Gloria was fond of thrifting, garage and yard sales, and taking trips to Goodwill in Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, searching for bargains. She enjoyed gardening, especially growing flowers. She loved to decorate, particularly for the holidays, and would refer to herself as a ''country bumpkin'' when it came to her style. Gloria was deeply devoted to her family, and often diagnosed their medical ailments, earning her the family "Doc" name. She had a great affection for traveling, navigating for Gene on their trips, and especially adored Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, TN. Gloria is remembered for her great spirit, bright smile, and kindness toward others.
Gloria is survived by her husband of 51 years, Gene; children, Jason M. Gottschalk of South Whitley and Angela M. Hatfield of Warsaw; brother, Michael (Susan) Iholtz of Bippus; grandchildren, Haliee Howard, Dayna Bennett, and Zach Gottschalk; and great-grandchildren, Jexon Howard and Kenzileigh Howard.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Edwards.
Gloria desired to have no services. She will be interred at the South Whitley Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley.
