Janice P.
Rockey
Jun 8, 1945 — Jan 31, 2022
Janice Pauline Rockey, 76 , entered Heaven at 5:36 a.m. Monday, January 31, 2022, from her home.
Born on June 8, 1945, in Kimmell, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Garrad E. and Rose (Wilder) Murphy. She completed elementary school at Cromwell and graduated from Wolf Lake High School in 1963.
On February 14, 1964, she married Frederick W. Rockey. They have always made their home in southern Noble County. Fred died on April 29, 2009.
A full-time homemaker raising the couple's five children, she later in life became her husband's caretaker for 15 years when his health declined.
Janice was a woman who loved fully and unconditionally God and her family. She used her unwavering faith to guide her through the obstacles of life. Some of her greatest joys in life were having the entire family over for Sunday dinners and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and unexpected guests.
In her later years, she liked to read, especially the Bible, and work word puzzles. Strong-willed, she would sometimes engage in verbal sparring with her children, most times being the victor. Unable to physically attend church, she watched the services broadcast on Sunday morning television.
Surviving are her children, Dawn (William) Wolf of Cromwell, Shannon (Beth) Rockey of Albion, Jeramie (Gina) Rockey of Columbia City, Heath (Georgia) Rockey of Ligonier, and Frederick G. Rockey of Fort Wayne; a sister Jane (Wayne) Jones of Colorado Springs, CO; brothers, Garrad (Sally) Murphy of Aurora, CO, James (Vicky) Murphy of Fort Wayne, Randall Murphy of Albion; and a brother-in-law Ralph Corner of Columbia City.
Additionally, she was preceded in death by a sister Ruth Ann Corner.
The funeral service is 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Fred at the Thorn Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Cancer Services of NE Indiana.
