Jeffrey Glenn Western, 64, of Columbia City, died unexpectedly of natural causes at 2:13 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2024, while on his daily walk.

Born on January 14, 1960, in Columbia City, Indiana, he was the son of the late Glenn A. and Frances G. (Braddock) Western. Growing up in Etna-Troy Twp., he graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1979. Since 2018, he has resided at Blue Bell Lofts.

Jeff began his work career with William's SuperValu in Columbia City and then the Columbia City Opportunity Center. For over 20 years, he worked for United Technologies, transitioning to Dana Corp, Columbia City.

With his outgoing personality and memory for names, he never knew a stranger. He liked to gather with friends and was a regular at Big G's Restaurant, the neighboring Speedway Convenience Store, and The Forklift at the Center in Columbia City. Jeff rescued a stray kitten from the highway eight years ago, naming him Fluffy. He pampered Fluffy, who quickly became his pride and joy, and who survives. Jeff enjoyed attending the area festivals, including the Whitley County 4-H Fair, Old Settlers Days, Johnny Appleseed Festival, and his favorite – Rib Fest in Fort Wayne. He always looked forward to family gatherings and spending time with his nephews, niece, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Surviving are his siblings, Steven (Jill) Western of Larwill, Gloria (Michael) Reimer of Columbia City, and Suzanne Western of Fort Wayne; four nephews and a niece; and three great-nieces and nine great-nephews.

The funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is at the Adams Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
