Joshua Robert Girton, 19, of Churubusco, died early Saturday morning, February 25, 2023, as a result of a single-vehicle accident outside of Churubusco.

Born on May 6, 2003, in Columbia City, Indiana, he was the son of Robert G. Girton, III, and Jennifer Lee (Winans) Girton. Growing up in Fort Wayne, he completed elementary school at Northcrest and graduated from North Side High School in 2021.

For the past seven months, he has worked at B & J Medical in Kendallville in the Quality Dept. He was recently accepted to Purdue University, Fort Wayne, and was looking forward to beginning his advanced education.

As a student of martial arts, he liked to develop and practice his skills. He enjoyed watching Ultimate Fight Championship (UFC) with his father, hanging out with friends, playing video games, or watching the latest Anime – the Japanese animation series with hand-drawn and computer-generated characters.

He will be sorely missed by his parents, Robert & Jennifer Girton of Columbia City; his sisters, Lara Melton and Gabrielle Girton of Fort Wayne and Mikaela Girton of Columbia City; and his maternal grandparents, Kent and Sheri Winans of New Haven.

The funeral service is 7 p.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday.
