Obituary

Julia Kay Cart , 84, of rural Larwill, died peacefully in the company of family at 7:20 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at her home.

She was born on March 31, 1940, and adopted by Glenn P. and Lucille H. Galloway. She grew up on a farm in Richland, Twp., graduated from Larwill High School, and completed Ravenscroft Beauty College, Fort Wayne, in 1959. She then became a licensed beautician.

She married Stanley Lee Cart on April 9, 1960, and they made their home on a farm in Richland Twp. Stanley died on September 16, 2002.

In addition to working on the dairy farm and maintaining the household, Julia raised three children.  She loved to garden, can the produce, and prepare delicious meals for her family.

Active in 4H most of her life, she consistently placed in the top tier of the events she entered.  Through the years, she was awarded Grand Champion and Champion for her immaculately groomed and maintained cows.  She was a member of the American Guernsey Cattle Club and 4-H Junior Leader.

Later in life, she became the caregiver to her aging parents.  With a caring heart, she took care of an Army and Marine veteran until their death.  She belonged to the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster, the VFW Post 1342 in Syracuse, and the Eagles Club in Syracuse.  Active in the West Etna Church, she served as their secretary.

Surviving is a son, Timothy Lee Cart of Pierceton; grandchildren, Travis, Kristy, Darrin, and Dustin; great-grandchildren, Rhett, Drift, Jill, William, Kylie, Katlin, Gabe, Cayden, August, and Luna; and a brother, Gary (Sandy) Galloway.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by a son, Darold Lee Cart and a daughter, Lorraina Kay Wallen.

The funeral service is at 1 p.m. Wednesday (June 5th) at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.  Burial is at the Syracuse Cemetery.  Visitation is from 11 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials in Julia's honor are to the West Etna Church.
