Karen Adele Maggard, 69, of rural Warsaw, died peacefully at home with her husband by her side at 12:18 a.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

Born on February 16, 1954, in Kosciusko County, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Darrell L. and Luella M. (Walker) Orr. Growing up near Pierceton, she completed Larwill/Pierceton Elementary School and was a member of the first graduating class from Whitko High School in 1972. She continued her education at IUPU Fort Wayne.

In addition to raising three children, she worked for 31 years for Dana Corporation in Syracuse. After retiring, she worked for a couple of years for Kroger.

On September 14, 2001, she married Jeffrey D. Maggard. They have always made their home in rural Warsaw.

Throughout her life, she liked fishing at local lakes or excursions to other states and Canada. She enjoyed drinking coffee or a Coca-Cola and collecting Coke memorabilia. For years, she was a regular at the Thursday night women's bowling league at the Wawasee Bowl in Syracuse. She liked to collect snowman figurines and always had a special place in her heart for animals, especially dogs. She leaves behind an inherited dog, Lady.

Surviving is her husband, Jeff; two sons, Todd (Candi) Murphy of Florida and Tiffin (Jenny) Murphy of North Webster; a daughter, Tara (AJ) Hall of Goshen; two stepdaughters, Melony (Jamey) Miller of Walkerton and Meagan (Matt) Pontius of Warsaw; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Orr.

It was Karen's desire not to have any service. Arrangements are in the care of Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
