Obituary

Larry Elza Huntsman , 88, of rural Albion, passed away peacefully at his home at 3:15 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026.

Larry was born at home on October 31, 1937, the son of Verlin B. and Marie H. (Brackney) Huntsman. He graduated from Wolf Lake High School in 1956, where he played basketball for the Wolves.

On November 16, 1958, he married Sandra C. Denney at Broadway Christian Church in Kimmell. He built his own home a quarter mile from his family's farm, where they spent their entire married life and raised their two children.

Larry was a lifelong farmer and also drove a school bus for 33 years for the Central Noble Community School Corporation. He loved cars and car racing and was known for his good sense of humor. Larry took great pride in a life defined by hard work, dedication to the land, and devotion to his family. He was a kind and patient man: a loving husband: and a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

His wife, Sandra, preceded him in death on May 10, 2025. He was also preceded in death by his son, Todd Huntsman, and sisters, Rosalie A. Marshall and Jean L. Huntsman.

Larry is survived by his children, Leon (Kim) Huntsman of Kimmell and Debbie Sanders of Albion; grandchildren, Jamie Bryant (Justin Burris), Nicholas (Amanda) Shearer, Macayla (Jared) Kimbrough, Candice Huntsman, Andrew Huntsman, Artemis Huntsman, and Marissa Huntsman; and great-grandchildren, Elle and Olivia Bryant, Marin Burris, Madyson, Craigen, Dexter, Zoey, and Hannah Shearer, Eli Westfall, Ezra Powell, and Theodore and Callahan Kimbrough.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Sons Funeral Home in Columbia City. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, at the funeral home, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will take place beside his wife at Christian Chapel Cemetery in Merriam.
