Obituary

Larry Dion Thompson, 56, of Columbia City, died peacefully in the company of family at 12:25 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2022, at his home. He had been battling cancer.

Born on November 8, 1966, at the Wells Community Hospital, Bluffton, Indiana, he was a son of Larry Wade Thompson and Jolene (Mock) Thompson. Growing up in Bluffton, he graduated from Bluffton High School in 1985. He continued his education, becoming a machinist and, later, earning a Commercial Driver's License.

After leaving Wells County, he lived in Huntington and Whitley County before making his home in Columbia City in 2007.

For 26 years, he worked for the Fort Wayne Foundry at their Columbia City location.  After the facility closed, he went to work for Warner Electric, Columbia City, for five years and then became a professional truck driver for Raven Trucking.

Surviving is a daughter, Chantal Byers of Kimmell; stepdaughters, Ashley A. Crowley of Columbia City and Katie Ashba of Lafayette; his partner and former wife, Rebecca Thompson of Columbia City, mother, Jolene Gibbs of Bluffton; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; brothers, Douglas (Julie) Thompson of Bluffton and David Gibbs of Port Charlotte, FL; and a sister Lisa (Gary) Smith of Phoenix, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Wade Thompson.

Larry's wishes were not to have any services. Arrangements are in the care of Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
