Obituary

Lela JoAnn Hyndman , 92, of Columbia City, died at 5:20 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2023, at Parkview Whitley Hospital.

Born on January 18, 1931, in Bourbon, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Robert D. and Elizabeth K. (Ziegenbien) Hyndman. Growing up in Columbia City, she completed the McLallen Elementary School and attended Columbia City High School.

Never marrying, she worked for the former Chamberlin Products in South Whitley later, she worked for Precision Plastics in Columbia City until her retirement. She has always made her home in Columbia City.

An avid bowler, she participated in the sport until she was 90.  At home, she liked to crochet, making blankets for family and friends. She enjoyed playing Yahtzee and Canasta. Through the years, she completed many paint-by-number kits, but most of all, she enjoyed the company of family and friends at her home.

Surviving are her siblings, Margaret Walters, Richard Hyndman, and Beverly Minnick, all of Columbia City; her best friends, Peggy Trahin, Bernie Fry, Demaris & Bill Valjack and Wyonda Rohrer; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister Norma June Harmon.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The siblings will receive family and guests from 1 p.m. until the service Friday at the funeral home. Lela will be interred at the Greenhill Cemetery at a later date.
