Lola Joy Zumbrun, 91, of rural Larwill, died peacefully at 4:40 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2022, in the company of family at her home.
Born on May 15, 1931, in Whitley County, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Wallace and Laura (Piper) Western. Growing up in the Larwill area, she graduated from Larwill High School in 1949.
On June 3, 1949, she was united in marriage to Jack L. Zumbrun. They have always made their home on a farm in rural Larwill. Jack died on January 11, 1989.
For over 30 years, Lola worked for Precision Plastics in Columbia City in the production department.
A 60-year member of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church, she was a member of the church board, participated in regular Bible studies, and served on the Prayer Chain and card committee. After Oak Grove's closure, she attended the Larwill Wesleyan Church. She was a proud member of Double Dozen Home Extension Club for 35 years.
In her retirement years, she enjoyed assembling 1000 pcs puzzles, meeting with her friends at the Senior Citizens Center in Columbia City, and playing BINGO. Quiet time was spent reading a good book. Family was always a priority, attending every grand and great-grandchild's graduation and many school events.
Surviving are her three daughters, Judith (Dan) Courtney of Syracuse, Marsha (Jerome) Keener of Pierceton; and Lora Fisher (Neil Schafer) of Warsaw; grandchildren, Melissa (Brian) Meredith, Michelle (Scott) Martin, Brent (Sonya) Keener, Ben (Angela) Keener, Erica (Steve) Moore, Erin (Jack) Mosier, Brandon (Amy) Zumbrun, Beckett (Megan) Zumbrun; 18 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lois Jean Rohrbach of Columbia City and Sharon (Garland) Hesting of Roanoke.
Additionally, she was preceded in death by a son, Kirk Zumbrun, and brothers, Tom, Glenn, and Paul Western.
The funeral is 1 p.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is at the Adams Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Promedica Hospice Care.
