Obituary

Loraine H. Crowder, 86, of South Whitley, died peacefully at 4:24 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Miller's at Oak Pointe, Columbia City, where she was admitted on Friday.

Born on November 22, 1935, in Noble County, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late William Woodrow Sheley and Juanita V. (Blankenhagen) Sheley. Growing up in Ligonier, she graduated from Ligonier High School in 1953.

On August 21, 1953, she married Homer R. Crowder. They made their first home in Ligonier, moving multiple times until 1972 when they settled in South Whitley. Homer died on July 3, 2016.

Since 1973, Loraine has worked for Fox Products, South Whitley. She retired as a supervisor in 2006.

The family was always her priority. She prepared delicious meals so all could gather at the table. Holidays were her favorites as she could prepare a lavish spread for all the family to enjoy and join in fellowship. An accomplished organist, she encouraged all her children to sing along or play the instrument of their choice. Among her many talents were crocheting and assembling puzzles. She adored the actor Tom Selleck through the years, making spirited references even in her final days.

Surviving are her children, Robert A. Crowder, Wayne "Tom" Crowder, both of South Whitley, and Diane (Dan) Jones of Brownsburg; grandchildren, Shaffin (Xochi) Baldwin, Rebecca (Thomas) Sayen, Jason Busz, Andrew (Miriam) Busz, Mariah (Michael Barron) Busz, Ashley (Jordan) Jarnagin, Jacob Jones, and Taylor (Luke) Jines; great-grandchildren, Erin, Ashley, Ella, Mila, Shaylyn, Xaundre, Xadrian, Xavior, Gabriel and Daniel; and a sister, Marilyn "Mary Jo" Roe of Ligonier.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by a grandson Randall Crowder and a great-grandson, Hunter Schubert.

The funeral is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 5th, at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. Burial is at the South Whitley Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 4th, at the funeral home.
