Obituary

Loretta G. Snodgrass , 76, of Columbia City, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Miller's at Oak Pointe, where she has been a resident since March.

Born on February 8, 1947, in LaPorte, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Hilda Pauline (Campbell) Snodgrass. She graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1965.  Continuing her education, she earned a medical assistant certificate from Ivy Tech, Fort Wayne. Dedicated to her work, she never married.

She had an amazing work ethic working two jobs for most of her career. She started working during High School at Blue Bell in Columbia City later moving to Don Ayres auto dealership in Fort Wayne.  After completing Ivy Tech, her primary job was medical coding for Lincoln Life, Fort Wayne, and Lutheran Hospital. After leaving Lincoln Life, she continued at Lutheran, with her second job at the Towne House Retirement Community, Fort Wayne, with over 25 years of service.

Early in her career, she had lived in Fort Wayne, then Garrett. Since 1991, she lived in Columbia City. She was affectionally called "Sis" by her family.  For the past five years, she cared for her beautiful Husky dog called Winter, who she dearly loved.

Surviving is a niece and caretaker, Tenel (David E.) Hawn of Columbia City, brothers, John Snodgrass of Milford and Richard Snodgrass of Columbia City; nieces, Catherine "Cate" Smith of Pierceton and Susan Null of Garrett; nephews, Shane (Nancy) Snodgrass of Columbia City and David Snodgrass of Sturgis, MI; great-nephews, Keith B. (Mackenzie) Hawn, and Kyle (Abby) Hawn; great-niece, Kendra Hawn (Nick Reyes); and a sister-in-law, Sally Snodgrass.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Smith, and brothers, Ronald and Allen Snodgrass.

The funeral service is 3 p.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is at the Nolt Cemetery. Visitation is 1 p.m. until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials in Loretta's honor are to the Humane Society of Whitley County.
