Lucille Edna Holling, 98, of South Whitley, passed away at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Miller’s at Oak Pointe, where she was a resident for the past month.
Born on November 13, 1927, in Columbus, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Noble and Frances Lillian (Watt) Burwell. Growing up in Westerville, Ohio, she graduated from Westerville High School in 1945.
On August 16, 1947, she married Charles W. Holling. They made their home in the Columbus area, raising three children. Charles died on May 20, 1969.
During her years in Columbus, Lucille worked for the Franklin County, Ohio, Prosecutor’s Office. In 1993, she moved to Miami, FL, where she worked for the Oncology Dept. at Baptist Hospital in Kendall, FL. She retired in 1993. For the past 25 years, she has made her home in South Whitley.
She enjoyed her work, forming close bonds with her coworkers. She liked to bowl playing in the local leagues and was always ready for a good card game. She delighted in shopping for the latest in fashion and always kept a nice appearance. In her retirement years, she read romance novels and the CJ Box western novel series. She enjoyed nightly game shows and reality shows on TV. During her quiet time, she worked word search puzzles.
Lucille is survived by her children, Gregory (Jacqueline) Holling of Columbia, TN, Marsha (Tony) Zingarelli, and Barbara Henning, both of South Whitley; grandchildren, Alex (Alicia) Holling, Megan (Trey) Stewart, and Melissa (Jon Plante) Henning; and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Schwind, Freda Eberhard, and Margaret Kitchen; and brothers, Emerson and Frederick Burwell.
Lucille desired no services. Arrangements are in the care of Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley.
