Obituary

Luther England , 90, of rural Columbia City, died peacefully at 4:27 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at Parkview Randallia, Fort Wayne.

Born on May 5, 1933 in Iaeger, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Charlie and Grace (Davis) England.  Growing up in Iaeger, he graduated from High School in 1951.

In 1951, he entered the U.S. Army.  He received an honorable discharge on April 5, 1954.

On March 18, 1963, he married Myrtle Griffith.  They made their home in Columbia City.  After 41 years of marriage, Myrtle died on June 15, 2004.

For 20 years, Luther worked for Bondflex Rubber in Columbia City where he retired as a superintendent in 1995.

He leaves behind a son and a daughter; his niece and caregiver, Bernice King of Columbia City; nephews, James (Marti) Steele and Terry Steele both of Columbia City; four siblings; and his close friend Kate LaFountain of Columbia City.

The funeral service is at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is at the South Park Annex Cemetery with military honors presented by the Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.  Visitation is from 1 p.m. until the service Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials in Luther's honor are to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
