Obituary

Marcia Rose King, 73, formerly of Tri-Lakes, Columbia City, died peacefully in the company of her family at 11:23 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at St. Anne Home and Retirement Community in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Born on October 29, 1952, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Joseph R. and Marceille M. (Berberich) Closson. Growing up in Huntertown, she attended Huntertown High School and graduated from Northside High School in 1971. She continued her education at Warner Beauty School in Fort Wayne and earned her beautician license.

Marcia made her home in Fort Wayne, then in Columbia City, raising three boys.

A career-long beautician, she worked five years at the Lutheran Home in Fort Wayne, styling the residents’ hair.

Dedicated to raising her boys, she remained close with them. Always adventurous, she liked spirited driving, keeping up with the local gossip, and telling embellished stories. Her boys remember her as a great mom and for her delicious apple pies.

Marcia is survived by her long-term partner, Brent Preston of Columbia City; sons, Daniel (Renee) Clark of Fort Wayne, Thomas E. (Kristen Knipstein) Clark of Fort Wayne, and Jeffrey Clark of Huntertown; siblings, Joseph Closson of Florida, Carol (Norman) Grover of Fort Wayne, and Patricia M. Gray of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday (Sept 4th) at Smith & Sons Funeral Home in Columbia City.

Preferred memorials in Marcia’s honor are to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
