Obituary

Marilyn Kay Bishop, 85, of South Whitley, died peacefully at 7:35 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at Stillwater Hospice in Fort Wayne, where she had been since April 2 nd .

She was born on May 18, 1936, in Wells County, Indiana, a daughter of the late Victor E and Olive (Branstator) Boxell. Her formative years were spent on a farm in Wells County and she graduated from Union Township High School.

On March 18, 1961, she married John C. Bishop. The couple have always made their home in South Whitley. John died on March 18, 2011.

In addition to being a homemaker, Marilyn had worked for Chamberlin Products, South Whitley, the Farmers and Loan Trust Company eventually becoming Crossroads Bank, South Whitley and finishing her work career at Estlick-Girvin & Lefever Insurance in South Whitley.

She enjoyed crochet and jigsaw puzzles, the more complicated the better.  An active member for many years with the United Methodist Church of South Whitley, she belonged to the Friendship Class, visited shut-ins at the area nursing homes, and served on the funeral dinner committee.

Surviving are her children, Sabra (Walter) Maurer of Fort Wayne and Victor (Jacki) Bishop of Larwill; four granddaughters, Christina Maurer, Tabatha (Luke) North, April (Austin) Sanders, and Rozlyn Bishop; great-grandchildren, Braiden, Rowe and Reid.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by sisters, Erma Simpson, Marcella Sprinkle and Lila Wilson; a brother Max Boxell and infant brothers Roe, Wayne, and Victor Boxell Jr.

The funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is in the South Whitley Cemetery.  Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the United Methodist Church of South Whitley.
