Marjorie J. Nichols, 91, formerly of Larwill, died peacefully at 3:45 a.m. Thursday, August 26, 2021, at Millers at Oak Pointe, Columbia City, where she had been a resident since May. Prior she had lived at Oak Pointe Assisted Living for over four years.

She was born January 14, 1930, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a daughter of the late George and H. Lucille (Bennett) Noble. Growing up in the Larwill area, she graduated from Larwill High School.

On August 8, 1948, she married Lee J. Nichols. They made their home in Steuben County until 1957, when they moved to Whitley County. Lee died on December 29, 2010.

She began her work career at Whitley Products in Pierceton for nine months, then with Lee, they started Larwill Service Station in 1953, which became Larwill Deli in 1991, where she continued until they retired in 1997.

She was a Larwill United Methodist Church member until they closed, transferring to Pierceton United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Pierceton, which has moved to Warsaw.

In addition to raising the couple's children, she enjoyed gardening, growing an annual vegetable garden, and planting flowers to adorn the house. She is remembered for her delicious baked goods, especially her pecan pie.

Surviving are her children, Lynette S. Kerschner of Fort Wayne, David Lee (Julie) Nichols of Orlando, FL, Melanie K. (Kerry) Hutchings of Phoenix, AZ; granddaughter, Rachel S. Black of Fort Wayne; grandson, Jamison Nichols of Orlando, FL and a step-granddaughter, Sara (Barrie) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Autumn & Soren Griffith, Aidan Johnson, and Winter Hasanen; a great-great-granddaughter, Willow Hasanen; and sisters, Sue Anne DeLorme of Phoenix, AZ, and E. Jayne Noble of Fort Wayne.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Scocozza.

The funeral service is 10 a.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Pierceton. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family request that mask be worn.
