Mary C. Corner, 95, of Columbia City, died peacefully at 1:40 p.m. Monday, February 14, 2022, at her home.
Born February 11, 1927, in Whitley County, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Evan and Goldie (Walters) Sheets. She spent her formative years in Courtland, New York.
On July 15, 1945, she married Ralph L. Corner. They made their first home in Marathon, New York. In the late 1940s, the couple moved to Tri-Lakes and later Larwill. In 1956 they moved to a farm in Richland Twp., then to Big Lake, Noble County, for ten years. In 2000, they moved to Columbia City. Ralph died on December 2, 2002.
For 25 years, Mary worked for Chamberlin Products in South Whitley, where she became a supervisor. After the plant closure, she went to work for Starlite in Pierceton for a few years.
She liked to play BINGO and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Pierceton where she helped with their events. Remembered as a great cook, she had a secret recipe for chocolate cookies that remained soft, chewy, and delicious for more than a week. She baked all the pies for the family gatherings and spent hours making noodles from scratch.
