Obituary

Max E. Young , 84, of Albion, died peacefully in the company of family at 3:51 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2026, at his home.

He was born in Noble Township, Noble County, Indiana on December 16, 1941, to the late Wilford J. and Mable E. (Hontz) Young. Growing up in the Wolf Lake area, he graduated from Wolf Lake High School in 1959.  He continued his education at Purdue University earning a degree in mechanical engineering.

On April 3, 1962, he married Carol A. Ott, and they made their home in Albion raising two children. Carol died on August 23, 2022.

Max began his engineering work career with International Harvester of Fort Wayne.  During down times at International Harvester, Max worked for Magnavox, and 6 years with Utilimaster in Wawaka.  Returning to International Harvester, he retired in 1997.  He completed his work career with Utilimaster in Bristol.

He was a member of the Wolf Lake Baptist Church.

With a passion for engineering, he enjoyed tinkering with woodworking, creating cabinets, and other pieces of furniture. Max made a hobby of redesigning any of his mechanic devices including his lawn tractors. Max enjoyed gardening, was a full-size train enthusiast, and loved to work on mechanical designs at home. He also had a fondness for listening to music, from Classical music to Church Hymns.

Max is survived by his daughter, Jill A. Young of Albion.

He is preceded in death by his son, Brian Young, his brother, Wilford Young, and his sister, Mary (Young) Stump.

A memorial service will be held at the Wolf Lake Baptist Church, 1133 Main Street, Wolf Lake, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, with visitation from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and the service to follow at 3 p.m. Burial will follow at Thorn Cemetery.
