Obituary

Nelda J. Swing, 90, of Columbia City, died peacefully at 12:23 p.m. on June 14, 2024, at Millers at Oak Pointe, Columbia City.

Born at the big brick house located at Wigent Excavating, in Columbia City Indiana, on February 21, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Cletus and Flossie (Miles) Nolt.  Growing up in the Jefferson Center area, she attended Jefferson Center High School and graduated in 1952.

On March 8, 1952, she married Ronald E. Swing. They have always made their home in Columbia City.

Nelda was a homemaker and an exceptional farmers wife getting involved in all the day to day chores from baling to feeding animals.

She enjoyed all sorts of crafts, including quilting, crocheting, sewing, making baskets, ceramics and painting.  She also loved to garden, growing beautiful flowers and vegetables. She was also a keen bowler.

Surviving is her loving husband, Ronald; children, Deanna Grigsby of Columbia City, Daryl (Sandy) Swing of Fort Wayne, and Dawn (Alfredo "Fred") Martinez of Columbia City; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Dani Nahrwold; and a sister, Nila McGahn.

The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday (June 21st) at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.  Burial will be at the Nolt Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 p.m. until the service on Friday at the Funeral Home.

Memorials in Nelda's honor are to Jefferson Chapel Church.
