It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Kent Edwards, who passed away at his home in Wolf Lake on Monday, April 28, 2025 at the age of 89.

Richard was born December 28, 1935 in the Luckey Hospital in Wolf Lake, Indiana to Don C. Edwards and Erma (Gray) Edwards.  After graduating Wolf Lake High School in 1953, he went on to serve in the US Navy Reserves from 1953 – 1956 and served on active duty in submarine service from 1954 – 1956 aboard the USS Torsk SS423 during the Korean War.  In October 2024, he took the NE Indiana Honors Flight # 49 to Washington D.C. Following his military service, he went on to graduate Purdue University in 1959 with a BS in Agriculture and a MS in Education in 1960.

Richard taught in the Wawasee schools for 29 years as well as serving eight years on the Central Noble school board.  His real passion was farming his Ferncliff Farms' 350 acres for over 55 years.  After retirement, he spent time at his second home in Mission, Texas where he enjoyed 26 seasons with his winter Texan friends.

He was a lifelong member of Wolf Lake Baptist Church, serving as a deacon.  He also served as director of Farmers Mutual Insurance Co for 19 years.  Richard was a life member of the VWF Post 4714 in Wolf Lake and spent over 50 years in the Lion's Club.  He was also a proud member of the Purdue Alumini Association and the NRA.

Richard is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Reva Carol (Hontz) Edwards; sons, Doug (Jenny) Edwards, Bret (Missy) Berkes, and Stephen (Joanna) Edwards; daughters, Valerie (Terry) Forker and Lisa (Gary) Bressler; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Larry Edwards and one grandchild.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday (May 2nd) at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.  Burial will be at Wolf Lake Cemetery. The Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday May 3rd at Wolf Lake Baptist Church, 1133 Main Street, Wolf Lake, Indiana 46796.
