Richard Eugene Treesh, 86, of Columbia City, passed away at 6:36 a.m. Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Parkview Regional Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Born on June 26, 1940, in Auburn, Indiana, he was a son of the late Oliver James Treesh and Hazel (Sheets) Treesh. Growing up on a farm in Thorncreek Twp., Whitley County, he attended Columbia City High School.

He went on to marry Joyce Corner. They made their home in Columbia City, raising a son. Joyce died on January 22, 2018.

Richard worked for the former Starlite Corp. in Pierceton and the former S&L Truck Stop in Columbia City.

Enjoying the outdoors, he liked to fish, hunt small game, and visit the mountains of eastern Kentucky. He was fond of the many horses he had through the years. A good bowler, he participated in the local leagues and is remembered for his good-humored banter.

He is survived by his son, Stephen Treesh of Columbia City; siblings, Melvin Treesh of Waterloo, Robert Treesh of Florida, James (Penny) Treesh, Jr. of Larwill, and Marsha Smith of Columbia City.

Additionally, he was preceded in death by an infant son and a brother, Loren Edward Treesh.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday (Sept 15th), with a funeral service beginning at 8 p.m. at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
