Obituary

Robert Michael McGregor , 75, left his pain behind and received his heavenly wings at 5:07 pm on Saturday, July 30, 2022. He was at home, surrounded by his family and the love and prayers of many, when he found peace.

Bob was born to Thomas and Nadine (Level) McGregor on December 31, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri. He completed his schooling in Missouri at Sappington Elementary and graduated from Lindbergh High School in 1965, thanks to the help of his sister Donna. After graduating, Bob joined the United States Army for two years, serving as an MP in Korea for over 11 months. He was Honorably Discharged in December of 1968, serving in the reserves until 1973. He received a Business Degree from Jefferson College in 1973.

On October 31, 1970, Bob married Loretta "Jean" Nahlik and gained a bunch of brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Bob was a proud, loving husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, son, brother, and uncle.

As a child, Bob worked for his dad at Thomas McGregor Sporting Goods in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1981, Bob and Jean moved their family to Indiana. Bob began to work for McClain and Aumsbaugh Furniture in 1982, then bought the business which would become McGregor Furniture from 1989 until Bob retired in 2007. After his retirement, Bob could be found most days walking around town. Bob was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church and a former member of the Columbia City Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, and the Downtown Business Association. Bob was a huge sports fan, spending many nights cheering on the TinCaps.

Bob did not know a stranger, and his home and heart were open to all. Many a friend and family have gathered at the table and on the porch: employees, police officers, firefighters, and more. Of course, friends become family.
