Rodney Allen "Rod" Engle, 68, of rural Orland, died peacefully in the company of his daughter on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at his home.

Born on September 18, 1955, in Greenville, Mississippi, he was a son of the late Ted Engle and Delores (Reehling) Rathgaber. After graduating from New Haven High School in 1973, he attended Purdue University where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science and a Master's Degree in Agricultural Economics.

He worked in several roles in the agri-business and finance industry, but spent the bulk of his career as a commodities broker on the Chicago Board of Trade.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his children, Alayne (Mark) Johnson of Columbia City and Jonathan (Lisa) Engle of Wabash; seven grandchildren; brothers, Stuart (Rita) Engle and Scott (Mary) Rathgaber; and a sister, Jane (Kevin) Zurbrugg.

A private memorial gathering will be held by the family.

Arrangements are in the care of Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
