Roger Eugene Emery , 83, of South Whitley, died peacefully at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Miller's at Oak Pointe, Columbia City.

Born on August 8, 1940, in Richmond, Indiana, he was a son of the late Roy and Lena (Brewer) Emery.  He began school in South Whitley. Then his father who was a minister, moved the family to Topeka where Roger graduated from high school in 1958.

On June 22, 1976, he married Sherlene Blain.  The couple have always made their home in South Whitley.

For over 30 years, Roger worked for Gripco Fasteners in South Whitley.  He was an inside sales representative handling major accounts.  During his tenure at Gripco he received awards from the company for his outstanding sales performance.

He was a member of the South Whitley Lions Club and the United Methodist Church of South Whitley. He enjoyed playing golf and bowled during the winter months.  In his retirement, he did leather work, making wallets, checkbook covers, belts and other leather goods.  Through the years he had several dogs with Freckles his most recent constant companion.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sherry; children, Jonathan (Alyssa) Emery of Westville and Angela (Thomas Hoagland) Emery of Columbia City; three grandchildren; and a brother Maurice Emery of Angola

Additionally, he was preceded in death by a brother Ron Emery and a sister Lenore Price.

The funeral service is 3 p.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley.  Burial is at the South Whitley Cemetery.  Visitation is from 1 p.m. until the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials in Roger's honor are to the South Whitley Lions Club.
