Rose Corrine Maggard , 91, formerly of Columbia City, passed away at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the Waters Columbia City, where she had been a resident since November.
Born on November 11, 1932, in Allen County, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Ora R. and Madeline (Curless) Walter. Growing up on a farm in Union Twp., she graduated from Coesse High School.
On February 21, 1954, she married John J. Maggard, beginning a 48-year journey together. They made their home on a farm in Union Twp., moving to Thorncreek Twp. in 1962. John died on June 9, 2002.
Enjoying farm life, she liked to ride horses, assist with chores, and maintain the household, raising four children. She delighted in crochet, making stockings for all the grandkids. She made quilts, which are now family heirlooms and was always fond of animals. Through the years, she often took leisurely drives down the area's backroads.
In her senior years, she relished her time with family or watching her favorite program on the Hallmark Channel.
She belonged to the Thorncreek Bethel Church of God and the Thorncreek Twp. card club.
Surviving are her children, Raymond (Colleen) Maggard of Harrison, OH, Kim (Sue) Maggard of Columbia City, Rose Ann (Jay) Rubrake and Lori Rice, both of Columbia City; ten grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and a sister, Sharon (Richard) Meyer of Fort Wayne.
Additionally, she was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Walters, and a half-sister, Carol Jean Garmon.
The funeral service is 1 p.m. Friday (February 23rd) at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. Visitation is from 11 a.m. until the service on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials in Rose's honor are to Parkview Home Health and Hospice or the Thorncreek Bethel Church of God.
