Sharon Kay Hostetler , 80, of rural Columbia City, passed away at 2:09 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2025, at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City.
Born on August 7, 1944, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Paul Herman and Rose Marie (Schoppman) Koldewey. Growing up in Fort Wayne, she completed Concordia Elementary School and graduated from North Side High School in 1962. She continued her education at 4 Winds Cosmetology School, earning a cosmetology license.
On June 16, 1973, she was united in marriage to John S. (Steve) Hostetler. They lived in NE Fort Wayne and began a family and later moved to Carmel, Indiana then to Roselle, Illinois before settling in Columbia City, Indiana where they have lived for the past 19 years.
After working in the cosmetology field for five years, Sharon went to work for the Fort Wayne School System in the cafeteria. When Steve's job took them to Carmel, Indiana, she transferred to the Carmel Clay School District where she worked until she retired in 2002. In 2007 she and Steve opened and operated the CC Deli in Columbia City until 2012.
At home, she enjoyed sewing and knitting. She delighted in a good card game, playing bid euchre, pinochle, or a game of Go Fish with the grandkids. During her quiet time, she read different Amish book series and watched old western movies. Caring for her property, she liked to grow flowers around her house.
Surviving is her beloved husband of 51 years, John; sons Robert (Lisa) Hostetler of Fort Wayne, Matthew (Mara) Hostetler of Columbia City and Marcus (Deborah) Hostetler of Crystal Lake, IL; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a brother Kenneth Koldewey of Walker, MN.
Visitation is from noon until the funeral service at 2 p.m. on Saturday (May 17th) at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is at the Greenhill Cemetery, Columbia City.
Memorials in Sharon's honor are to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Boys Town, or the Humane Society of Whitley County.
