Obituary

Shirley Louise Reimer, age 85, of rural Churubusco, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Miller's at Oak Pointe, Columbia City on January 25, 2025.

Born on July 13, 1939, in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Karl A. and Marie H. (Stuver) Zink. Shirley grew up on a farm in Thorncreek Township, where she completed her elementary education and attended Columbia City High School.

On November 13, 1955, she married Brice L. Reimer, and together, they made their home in Thorncreek Township, raising three children and managing a large egg production operation with over 5000 chickens.

After 58 years on the farm, they moved to Blue Lake, Churubusco, to be closer to family. Brice preceded her in death on September 19, 2023.

Shirley was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church in Columbia City, where she served as organist and pianist for 25 years and held various offices. She also worked at William's Grocery Store and retired from Miller's Merry Manor after 20 years in the environmental department.  After First Baptist Church of Columbia City closed, she joined Tri-Lakes Baptist Church and continued her passion for music as a pianist.  She participated in weekly Bible study groups.

Shirley cherished family gatherings and was known for her cooking, especially her cranberry salad. As the family historian, she meticulously documented her family's history, organized photos, and kept journals.

She is survived by her sons, Duane (Colleen) Reimer of Columbia City and Brian (Susan) Reimer of Senoia, GA; her daughter, Diane (William) Johnson of Churubusco; grandchildren, Justin Reimer, Kendra (Nathan) Shelton, Shelby (Alex) Peta, Derek (Ellyn) Johnson, and Amber (Craig Trammel) Johnson; nine great-grandchildren; and sisters, Sharon (George) Keysor of Haviland, OH, and Gloria (Larry) Grable of Fort Wayne.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, January 29th, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with burial following at St. Matthews Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Memorials in Shirley's honor are to the Tri-Lakes Baptist Church.
