Susie “Sue” Miller, 93, of Columbia City, was called to her Heavenly home on Monday, November 2, 2026, after a very brief illness. Sue spoke often about longing to be with Jesus and was peaceful as she anticipated joining family and friends who have journeyed before her.
Born on August 25, 1933, in Hutchinson, Kansas, Sue was a daughter of the late Sam R. and Katie (Miller) Schrock. She enjoyed sharing memories of growing up on a busy Kansas farm in Amish country and was an active member of the Mennonite Church for many years.
On June 5, 1954, Sue married Roger R. Miller, of Midland, MI, where they made their first home. They later moved to Huntertown, IN, where they lived for 57 years and raised four children. After Roger passed in 2015, Sue moved to Leo, IN, and in 2019, she settled in Columbia City, where she enjoyed fellowship and deep friendship at First Church of God.
In addition to being a wife, mother, and homemaker, Sue made great connections with staff and students working for 20 years as a Title One tutor at Huntertown Elementary. She also enjoyed business success decorating beautiful cakes (including wedding cakes) along with sharing her passion for health and wellness through her Shaklee business. She generously gave her time volunteering at church and the Dove’s Nest Thrift Shop.
A woman of strong faith, Sue adored Jesus, cherished Scripture, and was diligent in prayer. She loved investing in and spending time with people, serving and loving others well, and was an avid encourager and prayer warrior. She had an infectious laugh and found great joy in singing, playing the piano, sewing, reading, playing games, and working on puzzles.
Sue is survived by her children, Janeen (Anthony) Schortgen of Fort Wayne and Bradley (Brenda) Miller of Columbia City; 15 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her daughter, Lynda (Richard) Eicher; her son, Roderick (Meg Mittelstedt) Miller; her brothers Orie Yoder, Melvin, Mervin, and John Schrock; and her sisters, Mamie Munro, Lizzie Yoder, and Marie Dillinger.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 14th, at 11am, at the First Church of God, 1200 W. Depoy Dr, Columbia City. Burial will follow at Huntertown’s Perry Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00pm - 7:00pm on Friday, November 13th at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, as well as from 10:00am - 11:00am at the church on Saturday (14th).
We are so thankful for Sue and her example of strong faith, nurturing love, and unwavering prayer.
Her legacy will live on in our hearts.
Memorials in Sue’s honor are to Pioneers – Christian Missions Organization or The Gideons International.
