Suzanne L. Cook , 90, formerly of South Whitley, died peacefully at her home in Fort Wayne at 11:33 a.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

Born on April 1, 1933, in Decatur, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Don E. and Vivan L. (Davis) LeBrun. Growing up in South Whitley, she graduated from South Whitley High School in 1951. She continued her education at Indiana University, Bloomington, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1955.

In 1954, she married Thomas C. Cook. The couple made their home in the Fort Wayne area, raising nine children. The couple later divorced.

She began her teaching career at the Coesse School where she taught grade school art.  When she began to raise a family, she did part-time substitute teaching at several area schools in Fort Wayne, Columbia City, and South Whitley (Whitko). From 1994 until 1999, she co-owned the LeBrun family business – the Kent Theatre in South Whitley, showing first-run movies. In 1999, she moved to Fort Wayne.

In 1963, she became a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She participated in the singles groups and enjoyed genealogy. When the grandkids and great-grandkids came along, they became her focus and joy.

A talented painter, she liked painting in the Norman Rockwell style. She is also remembered for her baked goods, making delicious cakes and breads.

Surviving are her children, Carla M. Cook of Indianapolis, Brent E. (Kem) Cook of Waveland, MS, Jennifer Jones of Leo, Nora R. Gressier of Salt Lake City, UT, Amy Keener, Rachel S. Geistwhite, Jason T. (Amelia) Cook, Nathan C. Cook, and David Cook, all of Fort Wayne; 25 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by a brother, Davis LeBrun.

The funeral service is at 2 p.m. Saturday (September 24th) at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is at the South Whitley Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
