Timothy Spencer Gaff, 76, of Selma, formerly of Kimmell, passed away at 2:06 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at his home.

Born on February 21, 1950, at Luckey Hospital in Wolf Lake, Indiana, he was the second of six children born to the late Clarence S. and Emma Jeanne (Wiley) Gaff.  Growing up in South Whitley, he completed elementary school, then the family moved to Urbana, IL, where he started high school.  Moving back to the Wolf Lake area, he was a member of the last graduating class of Wolf Lake High School in 1968.  He continued his education attending Lincoln Bible Institute in Lincoln, IL, and then Purdue University, West Lafayette.

On June 3, 1972, he married Joyce Irene Cripe. They made their home on a farm in the Kimmell area, raising two children.  In November of 2025, the couple moved to Selma to be closer to family.

Tim began his work career with Roadway Trucking in the Overage-Shortage-Damages (OSD) department.  He then worked as a Purchasing Director for the Recreational Vehicle industry in the Elkhart area. He was called upon to troubleshoot problems at the Tennessee and Southern California operations.  He continued as a Purchasing Director for Walker Automotive in Ligonier.  He completed his work career with his friend, Bob Wysong, at Wysong Chevrolet-Pontiac in Cromwell, managing their parts department.

A man of faith, Tim did not know a stranger and in short order would befriend you with his good-humored banter and practical jokes.  He led the weekly Bible study at church, sat on the church board, and volunteered his time doing maintenance and repairs.  He enjoyed hunting on his farmland and continued to farm throughout his life; the farm, part of the Wiley homestead, he often referred to as the "Garden of Eden."  He liked to paint and draw landscapes, read about history, and read a good Tom Clancy techno-thriller book. He delighted in playing golf, and his competitive side emerged when playing board games with family and friends.

He was a member of the Wolf Lake Baptist Church and was currently attending Bible Baptist Church in Selma.  He was a board member of the former Luckey Hospital Museum and the Wolf Lake High School Alumni Association.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Joyce, children, Ben (Gloria Kienow) Gaff of Mason, OH, and Monica (Lafe) Huntsman of Muncie; grandchildren, Katelyn (Tyler) Gwyn, Isabelle (Daulton) Vlaskamp and Spencer Huntsman; siblings, Anthony Gaff of Beaumont, IL, Frances (John) Hawley of Winchester, Nicholas (Sandi) Gaff of Osceola and Mark (Jack Tindal) Gaff of Louisville, KY.

Additionally, he was preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia Gaff.

Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday (Aug 7th) at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday (Aug 8th) at Stringtown Farms Event Center, 1786 S 700 W, Kimmell, with visitation 1 hr. prior.  Burial is at the Stringtown Cemetery.
